"Decisions"
Acrylic on Canvas
12in x 24in
November 28th, 2017
This Painting was inspired and created by the Fauvism movement and my artists inspirations Mountains at Collioure (1905) by André Derain and HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954)and his piece 'The Roofs of Collioure', 1905 (oil on canvas). My piece is a dark lonesome path that leads to only one end towards a goal created from a decision that is made when I walk that path. And that there are a lot of other different paths that can direct me off the current path and could make me fall down a different path that will lead me down a wrong direction in life. So i must keep my pace in check and walk steadily down the correct path creating the right decision in my life and avoiding the wrong. These doors I open and walk through them as i make multiple decisions throughout my life and so I have changed the course of my life throughout each day.

Artist Inspiration
My piece "Decisions" inspired by my artists inspirations Mountains at Collioure (1905) by André Derain and HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954)and his piece 'The Roofs of Collioure', 1905 (oil on canvas). I was inspired by their fauvism movements and use of lines and brushstrokes. I implemented their use of hues of different saturation to create the depth with my path within my piece when making this piece. I used space to create the illusion of the path becoming further away as the path gets smaller giving it a vibe of being far away as its perspective when viewing this piece. My artist inspirations use exaggerated surrealist colors to create their unreal landscapes within their pieces and I use their use of colors to represent visually what it is like for me to make a decision that are expressed within my life daily and how they impact me and everyone else close to me. I used my artist use of texture to make all the individual lines make the piece pop and stand out more and really draws the eyes of the viewer. The serious connotation of the feelings that the bland gloomy door at the end of the hall represents how the door at the end plays a more significant role in my life that i don't know until the decision is made and that door is opened.
Planning
Brainstorming/Planning Sketches
Brainstorming/Planning Sketches
I created three planning sketches and took components from my overall theme to create these planning sketches
Painting Process
I started creating this piece by making a 12 by 24 centimeter sized canvas for my acrylic painting. Then i put white acrylic paint on it and let it dry on my piece. After that i began painting my canvas with a solid blue coat of acrylic paint and then using a white lightly blending the whit within the back ground creating lighter and darker values of the blue hue creating an eerie background to my piece as it being a deserted dart empty place with only one purpose. That then I created the path with a light blue acrylic paint and used repetitive brush strokes. then going over the path with a longer stokes. then I painted a brown door at the end of the path. After that then i painted the light on top of the painting with white and yellow acrylic paint. Then after that i painted using the fauvism movement and the technique of my artist inspirations brush strokes and used those to create the light coming from it with each line representing a spec of light coming from the light.
Reflection
First impression about my piece that it is the most minimalist piece I have made from the dedication to the effort with my brush strokes and presentation of lines in my piece. what I will do is go back and create a more elements within this piece after this critique to brighten and give more life towards my piece. I would go back and put more detail in this piece cause it needs a little more and the path needs more strokes to define it better. Also more form and is too bland and i plan on changing that with the light from the light to hit the entire piece. I am happy with the outcome of the idea and not of this piece and how I am going to improve that is with the dedication and patience making this piece better and making the outcome of it not look plain and simple.

Experimentation
I experimented with many different types of brushes that would be a good use of blending the background in to give a mist like element towards my background within this piece.
Critique"Decisions" reflects on my artist inspirations and how I created my piece through using their pieces and ideas intertwined with my own ideas. I used their Fauvism movement and methods of design to create this piece. It could have more and I may go back and do more with this piece but the effort in this piece has been more then an
The Meaning
The meaning behind this piece "Decisions" is all the things that I have made choices within my life that have created a alternate path that i have followed that cause to create the life i life today. it all begins and ends with on the decisions that we make as a human and how those decisions we make reflect back on how our lives are developed and how detrimental the decisions are and how the have positively and negatively impacted the outcomes of life. The serious connotation of the feelings that the bland gloomy door at the end of the hall represents how the door at the end plays a more significant role in my life that i don't know until the decision is made and that door is opened. The truth is we all don't always follow the correct path and that normal human nature and its because no ones life is perfect. Although this doesn't mean that we can never make the right decisions in our lives and everyone can make the best decisions even if they aren't the best, and that's such its life because its what behind the door that you open where later on the outcome of the not best decisions that you make will affect the ones you will have later on in life. and so within my life. That the simplest to most complex decisions have created more doors and chances to altered present that I live in as of today. So follow the light stay on track and follow the right one all the way to find that door that will lead into the outcome that you truly want to come out from making that decision.
